Injuries that occur as a result of an individual's occupation can range from very mild sprains to more serious multitrauma. Injuries can also occur as a result of repetitive minor events that over time culminate in significant injuries. An understanding of these injuries and how they occur is key to addressing them. Prompt attention and treatment is required to reduce the severity and duration of the disability. A comprehensive history and physical examination to assess the injured area as well as areas that might not be initially obvious. Understanding the mechanism of the injury, the biomechanics required tasks, and ergonomics of the environment are evaluated and considered. Diagnostic imaging including X-rays and MRI will be obtained to confirm diagnosis and determine specific treatment plan.
Electrodiagnostic studies will be preformed to diagnose and quantify neurologic injury. Also called Nerve Conduction Studies are a highly specialized study in which nerves are stimulated and recorded at specific points to determine slowing or loss of impulse traveling along their course. Medications when appropriate are prescribed to reduce inflammation, reduce muscle spasms, reduce nerve symptoms, and reduce pain. We will also coordinate with orthopedics and neurology when appropriate to provide a central base for your care.
Patients will begin their physical therapy program right away to reduce the pain cycle, re-establish normal muscle tone, address injuries, and restore prior functional level. Our decades of experience treating these injuries, refining techniques and treatment protocols, are to the advantage for our patients and their recovery.
